Cards 1, 2 and 4 of the 10-card set
Not this year. Cordovan bravely talked up the birthday, showering the forums with birthday turbine points and making it his personal crusade to carry the spirit of the birthday celebration to each server in the form of an open-to-all trivia contest. Huzzah to Cordovan for the valiant one-man effort!
But less huzzah and more razzie to Turbine who’s corporate response was total silence on the birthday front. There have been vague references to the upcoming release of Update 21 as being the “real” birthday celebration. Okay, today is not that far from their birthday, this can work. Except, I thought Update 21 was celebrating D&D’s 40th anniversary?
Part of the D&D celebration is the DDO-reworking of a classic pen-and-pencil module, the Haunted Halls of Eveningstar. There is also supposed to be a new collectible/tradable card set that honors D&D by featuring monsters from the original Monster Manual, that one can collect and trade (well, duh, what did you expect?) and also turn in as sets for (generally) minor rewards. Some cards will be rarer than others, and rarity drives the reward: rare sets will have a more valuable reward.
It sounds fun, although there may have been some issues with people exploiting the card delivery system on Lamannia. I hope that if this is true, it got corrected before delivery. One can hope, right?
Other than the cards, Update 21 looks to me like it is more about new content and bug fixes than anything else. There was going to be a new Epic Destiny but that was pulled out for further work. But there will be a pretty big helping of new content, including two new raids, twice as many as we received all of last year put together.
Excellent, one has to love new content. And bugfixes, one has to love them too.
Happy birthday DDO?
