Sparksy and her Endless Cache of Christmas Morning
Sparksy and her Endless Cache
of Christmas Morning

Taking a new level on a character is always fun. Taking one on a True Reincarnation character is extra super fun, partly because it so much harder to level a TR that you appreciate it more. But mainly because of the Reincarnation Cache.

For those of you unfamiliar with this endless bag of goodies: each time you TR, all of your character’s equipment is stashed in the Reincarnation Cache. This is a one-way bag of holding, you can take items out whenever you like but you can never put anything back in.

Think of it like a tube of toothpaste. You can squeeze out a lot, or a little, but once it’s out it is out forever. Except instead of dentist-approved minty freshness, your reincarnation cache gives you a little dab of whatever awesome items and loot you chose to save for your next life.

If you are like me, you have a variety of items with a wide range of minimum levels in your cache. Meaning that every time you level, one or more items suddenly becomes available to you.

Sparksy leveled twice over the weekend. Each time I sprinted to the bank, anxious to see what new bounty awaited: Mask of Tragedy! <meh> Fearsome armor! <Hmmmm> Culchannad’s Claw! <yay!>

It’s like Christmas morning but without the colorful pajamas.

Chelena is going to take a level tonight. I wonder what she’ll get?

🙂 😀 🙂

  1. Life itself is like a tube of toothpaste. You squeeze out the good stuff when you want it, save the rest for later, and eventually it runs out.

  2. From what I’ve read, it’s possible to add to the reincarnation cache, but only with stacks of stuff. So if you’ve got, say, a stack of bronze tokens from the Sands in there, you can shove all your new ones in as well (at least until you hit the ceiling).

But I get a similar sensation whenever I level up a first-lifer and see what’s available. Like hitting L8 on my banker last night…

+2 Holy shortsword of PG! +1 Weakening longsword of PG! +2 Ghost Touch kukri of PG! Snakeskin Vest! Brigand’s Cutlass! Cutthroat’s Smallblade! Ring of the Buccaneer! Brawling Gloves!

My new FvS is gonna have FUN when she hits L6, with paired Sun Blades, Muck’s Dooms, and Maces of Smiting waiting for her…

(Also, feel free to edit my post to add links if you wish, I’ve no idea how LOL)

  3. Sure you can put stuff back in, you just TR again! 🙂

  4. And there’s the balancing act when you hit your last TR on a character for a while. When I take something out, I have to ask myself “Are you really really going to use that on this build, or are you going to play with it for a day then use up a REAL bank slot?”

Of course, the saddest moment of having the TR cache is when you realize you have to empty it before you can TR again, and there’s TOO MUCH STUFF.

What do you think?
