Only 93 favor to go!
Only 93 favor left to go! Should be easy, right?

Wow. I just looked back, and it’s been ten months since Mawry and Majicka set out to run every quest in the game and earn 5000 favor.

Ten months!

During which we’ve both Epic TR’d, actually Mawry has twice, even though “Epic TR” is not a verb. We’ve seen so many things. Looted so many chests. Slain so much evil.

But we’re having a terrible time getting through the last little bit. You want to finish a marathon with a sprint, but in our case it is more of a crawl. A painful crawl. Through broken glass and barb wire.

It seems that this is a more difficult pursuit than originally envisioned. We knew we’d have to run some quests we don’t particularly care for. Okay, we’re cool with that. And we knew there’d be some that are hard to do on elite bravery streak, or that seem to require more than two people. Okay, we’re cool with that too.

We’ve even hit a wall before in this quest. Not for long, we found a way to punch through, but it seemed quite wall-like when initially encountered.

But this is different. We didn’t account for just how hard it would be to find a group to run some of these quests.

Only 5 quests to go!

We’ve come up with two-man strategies for a lot of quests that at first glance seemed to need more than two: In the Demons Den, the Hound of Xoriat, The Titan, others. And we’re still trying to find two-man strategies for Precious Cargo and for Brothers of the Forge, although so far our strategy has been variations on:

  1. Enter
  2. Flail about uselessly
  3. Die

Which is a common strategy, but not one that will not earn you very much favor.

You can’t tell from these images, but we’ve done almost all of the challenges too. Not all to six stars, mostly fives (except the Rushmores which are mostly 2s and 3s). We could wring another 10-25 favor out of the challenge system if we could just get the rest from quests.

For the entire last month we’ve been logging in with (whoever) and before doing anything else, scanning the LFM panel for any of the remaining quests. Last week there was an elite Vision of Destruction. Yay! A couple of weeks ago, someone ran the Lord of Blades and the Master Artificer. Bonanza!

But now we’re stuck.

I don’t put up LFMs of my own for Ascension Chamber, Fall of Truth or Precious Cargo because I don’t know the quests well enough (or at all, really) and don’t care for LFMs that beg for a guide. I may have to get over that though.

We’ve had LFMs for Tower of Despair, a couple of times, but no one joins. After an hour there are four people in the group and we give up.

I know what we have to do. We have to get more aggressive about posting for groups, and more patient about waiting for them to fill, but neither of these are fun for us.

Oh well. You want the shiny +5 Tome that comes with 5000 favor, you need to work for it.

Who said it had be fun?

  1. This is part of the reason why I decided to say screw it and bought the +6 Supreme Tome from the DDO store. I’ve earnt tons of points thanks to Heroic TR plus what I get from my VIP stipend so managed to save up in relatively short order πŸ™‚

I do feel your pain though dude, those left over quests are not exactly nice quests to run on EE πŸ™ well certainly not for me anyway πŸ˜‰

  2. I’d be happy to run ya through Precious Cargo, and can assist with Fall of Truth. I think you’ve got the character name, but if not, DM me on Twitter or something.

  3. As someone that has been where you are and have made it https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/453034-Enoach-(Khyber)-5000-Favor
I know what you are going through. I was lucky and was able to leverage my guild to help me out. What I did was post on my Guilds forums where I was at and what I still needed to get to the goal and was able to enlist help. You might be able to do the same on the DDO forums on your Server’s Forum something like pushing towards 5000 favor need help. List what you need and you might be surprised at the support (or people hoping to ride your shirt tails themselves to 5000 favor)

  4. What about asking Patrick and/or a couple of people who are “regulars” on DDO Cast to help out with some of those quests/raids? Patrick could even make a special out of it for DDO Cast to show you guys how to do it, (he even pulled Jerry through some quests in a run to show how they go in the show – effectively solo-ing them while teaching).

Or just post up here/on the forums to plan a group to form to get your big Quest – 5000 favor – done, if some of the guilds helping for new players are willing to chip in, surely that might work.

  5. Livmo just got back to L20. I can assist with EE Brothers and FoT soon if you want some company.

  6. What server are you on? Our guild sacrifices bards & halflings, but other than that we’re nice folk.

  7. have you considered using some challenges to get some more favor?

  8. You’d think an advertised party would fill quite quickly on Sarlona… Being [apparently] the most heavily populated server.

  9. Thank you everyone for the kind offers. You are not just clever readers, but also, nice πŸ™‚ Thanks!

    Yes, we’ve included challenges Patrick,

And best of all, last night all of the planets apparently aligned and we were able to knock out Tower of Despair, and then put together a group that needed 62 deaths but still won the Fall of Truth! \

And now we only need one more! πŸ™‚

    • Goodness! I solo healed ee FoT on my pure FvS tanky healer, and death rate was a joke. Not that I am that superb, but the guys were serious, determined and prepared.

  10. Cargo ee is very funny to solo – on arti, for example.

What do you think?
