The DDO Compendium is going away, and like much of the other DDO-related web presence, will not be replaced. I am rewriting and transferring some of the references that I created from the Compendium to this site while I can. These articles refer to older quests, but I still use the information, sporadically, while re-leveling my TR characters.

Even though the quest Stealer of Souls is not a raid, it requires a complicated unlocking process:

  1. Present any three of the six dragon gems to Thear in Reavers Refuge
  2. Present the complete set of three dragon essences to Toriavic in Reavers Refuge

Note that step (1) is only necessary once, while step (2) is necessary each time you wish to restart the quest.

Dragon Gems

Six regional dragon gems exist but only three are needed to unlock the quest. It does not matter which three gems you provide, any will work.

Each of the dragon gems drops in a different explorer zone.

Gem Color Drops In Zone
Aussiredar’s White Aussircaex’s Valley
Iskaryte’s Blue Mount Reysalon
Omaekrix’s Blue Soami Gardens
Sventusk’s White Ruins of Gianthold
Thadargix’s Black Sands of Menechtarun
Vuthesjing’s Black Orchard of the Macabre

Dragon Essences

One may avoid having to re-acquire and re-submit all three gems essences each time the quest is completed by avoiding the end reward. Don’t talk to Vorace (the end reward item giver and Essence vendor) at all if you are attempting this technique.

Alternately, Vorace will sell you essences, obviating the need to re-run one or more quests, for Draconic Runes. Note that Vorace will not vend anything until you have completed Stealer of Souls once.

Essence Gem Color Drops in Quest
Eberron White Prey on the Hunter
Khyber Black Enter the Kobold
Siberys Yellow Monastery of the Scorpion

  1. “One may avoid having to re-acquire and re-submit all three gems each time the quest is completed by avoiding the end reward.” Um, you mean “essences” not “gems”, yes? I mean, it is under “Dragon Essences”, after all…
