Child models the lovely Raiders Reward Box. And doesn't she look lovely doing it.

Pretty box. Pretty!

You may have noticed that this article, and the last couple of articles preceding it, are all about Update 20. That’s because Turbine has released what they call a “early development” version to Lamannia, and I’ve spent a couple of hours there scoping it out.

There are three big changes:

  • Reincarnation is getting a makeover
  • A new wizard enhancement tree, “Eldritch Knight” will enable those who have long dreamed of making melee casters
  • Experience points for most quests are getting a shave and a haircut – something we haven’t talked about yet in detail

Big changes, no doubt, and are attracting most of the attention. But I couldn’t help noticing one little item in the release notes:

As an apology for the issues with Raid 20th completion reward lists, a Raider’s Reward Box should appear in your inventory if you meet one of the two prerequisites:

  1. You have completed a Raid on your current life. (This does not include Chronoscope or Tempest Spire.)
  2. You have performed a TR since U19.

Apparently all of the characters I copied over to Lamannia fit the bill, as they all had a special box in their inventory. But then, wouldn’t most long-time characters qualify? I would imagine the vast majority of longer-term DDO characters have run a raid, and those that have not, are most likely recent TR’s.

But I digress. The real question is whats in the box??

  • 5 Heroic Commendations
  • Agony
  • Celestia
  • Tinah
  • Balizarde
  • Nightmare
  • Mornh
  • Pinion
  • Needle
  • Sireth
  • Twilight
  • Cleaver
  • Breach
  • Antipode

Yes, your pick of every raid weapon that drops in Caught in the Web. Or five Heroic Commendations for those of you accumulating HCs to make armor or upgrade your new weapon.

Pretty sweet reward.

  1. Awww πŸ™ no surprise box for a mizzaroo πŸ™

  2. Curious…

  3. My main TR guy TR’d the day before U19 – that will teach me to be organised! Must make sure he runs a raid this weekend πŸ˜›

  4. πŸ™‚ I felt like it was kind of moot, but I guess it’ll be nice for some, especially if there’s a specific weapon you’re still looking for from there.

  5. Me & guildies are already planning a bunch of quick & easy VoD runs for characters we haven’t used in some time, just to make sure we can get our freebies πŸ™‚

However, if you look at Tolero’s quote here regarding the recent item-duping issue:
“While we’re not able to comment on specific/individual action regarding what’s become of particular accounts, I can speak in general terms regarding the type of issues we are investigating…

    – 14 days is the minimum. Some may end up extending longer (or permanent) based on severity.
    – Accounts that return from their break will have a significantly reduced inventory, as items are being removed from the characters with extreme prejudice. ”

If they’re already going into inventories to remove certain items, they may make sure those people don’t get the reward box either, pretty much making it a defacto “thanks for not cheating!” reward – no idea if this is true, but considering the wide-reaching nature of the box (have a raid completed ever on that life, or have done a TR since u19) vs. the presumably relatively lower number of 20th reward lists missed, it wouldn’t surprise me if this an unofficial secondary side to it

  6. Wow, that is very interesting indeed. I don’t raid all that much but the majority of my characters have done at least one raid or two except for my characters who aren’t a TR who are under level 10. This will be a nice little gift for somebody like me, who doesn’t raid all that much, but does once in a great while.

  7. When I saw that I jdid a little victory dance. Some people may have all the weapons they want from CitW, but I have none! This is great!

Oh, and btw, I wonder why the twitter feed for this post made me think of a SNL episode…

  8. After reading this, I finally TR’d my main (for a 3rd life) to make the Monkcher I always dreamed of…with a Pinion waiting for him πŸ™‚

At least I am assuming that any character that TR’s before U20 drops, will get a box?

  9. I think its nice for people who dont get chance to run raids over and over, ofc some people will have everything so they ofc are gonna want more

Im fine with it though, my current guys are not exactly in need of one but who knows when one will be useful to me, just cant remember if my lv6 tr’ed before or after, maybe i’ll have to try get a von done to be safe πŸ™‚

What do you think?
