The DDO Compendium is going away, and like much of the other DDO-related web presence, will not be replaced. I am rewriting and transferring some of the references that I created from the Compendium to this site while I can. These articles refer to older quests, but I still use the information, sporadically, while re-leveling my TR characters.

Qualifying for the Abbot raid is a complicated business (go here for details). Part of the process is filling out a special sigil frame that is available from Sir Rohine in the Upper Necropolis.

The sigil frame is a special container that only holds LoTD-required items. When complete, it is turned into Sir Rohine to unlock the Abbott pre-raid quest Litany of the Dead.

The following information was originally published by DaveyCrockett

There are four quests that drop the Sigil Pieces. Four pieces drop randomly within those four quests, and four pieces drop static within those four quests.

The static drops are:

1 Right Wing drops from Desecrated Temple of Vol
2 Left Wing drops from Flesh Maker’s Laboratory
3 Right Frame drops from Inferno of the Damned
4 Left Frame drops from Ghosts of Perdition

The random drops are:

5 Left Pincer
6 Center Frame
7 Eye of the Abbot
8 Right Pincer

As pointed out by forum user Impaqt, Update 13 changed things such that all eight sigil pieces may now drop from any chest in any Orchard quest or in the Orchard adventure area.

However it remains true that they drop far more often in quests than in the adventure area, and those pieces marked “static” still drop in their originally-designated quests far more often than anywhere else.

In other words, if you need a left wing, you’ll still want to seek it in Flesh Maker’s Laboratory.

The sigil container is obtained from Sir Rohine when he gives you the quest chain. At first it looks like a gaping black hole
Incomplete Sigil

As you drop collectible pieces into it (via drag-and-drop), the image of the sigil within the container becomes more and more complete.

Sigil with all pieces

The image of the sigil container changes too, not just the image within, when you complete all of the pieces:
Complete Sigil

The pieces themselves:

Right Wing fills in the first slot of the sigil container

Left Wing fills in the second slot of the sigil container

Right Frame fills in the third slot of the sigil container

Left Frame fills in the fourth slot of the sigil container

Left Pincer fills in the fifth slot of the sigil container

Center Frame fills in the sixth slot of the sigil container

Eye of the Abbot fills in the seventh slot of the sigil container

Right Pincer fills in the last slot of the sigil container

The frame may contain multiples of each piece; only one set will be removed when you turn the frame into Sir Rohine. Any extras remain in the frame and will carry over into your next life, helping you qualify for the Litany of the Dead again after you True Reincarnate.

And if you are a TR character, you are going to want to re-qualify for the Litany of the Dead. Even if you never run the Abbot raid, the pre-raid is full of experience points

  1. Completing the sigil is a challenge for me because of one piece: Eye of the Abott. My frame is full of all the other pieces, but the Eye always escapes my grasp…

    • Funny you say that @Adiurd, i spent the weekend flagging for Litany (and running it) and there is always one bit that causes issues. In this case it was the center frame. Think i ransacked 2 quest chests trying to find it.

I find it funny as that is normally not one of the ones i have troubles with.

  2. The appears to be one, for me it was the right pincer. Yesterday though, running with Even and a friend we completed 3 sigil frames and my friend almost completed another on a alt – all that in a few hours. The quests go quick when you take level 20+ toons in πŸ™‚

What do you think?
