Yes I think it is 🙂

I used to give myself 4’s because awarding myself a 5 seemed like so much … hubris … but also sad like giving yourself a gold star.  But then I realized that everyone gives everybody a 5 every time they rank anything, so I was actually short-changing myself in my efforts to keep my pathetic vanity at some sort of reasonable level .

But at least I do have some rules about it: some tiny shred of self-esteem must be maintained! Well okay, only one rule. But I stick to it at all costs:

Never be the first one to rank your own post

This allows me to visit other sites, see postings with one ranking (5 of 5 of course) and wallow in a gratuitous pool of moral superiority: I would never do that! I have a rule!

Do not, repeat, DO NOT!  go through my site and count the posts that have two rankings (5 of 5 of course). Or at least if you do <shhhh> don’t tell anyone.

I feel better now that I’ve shared 🙂

  1. I gave ya a 4 *grins*

  2. This post is not up to my usual, self-awarded-gold-star standard. I give it four smilies out of five.

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. Well it was intresting reading but why did you spend time even typing that?

  4. Oh my an actual opinion! Spicy!

I am impressed that my 4-smiley drivel was described as “interesting reading”. This is much more credit than it deserved.

Thank you for restoring some small measure of my faith in the importance of taste. Some day I hope to achieve some of my own.

  5. Hahaha… I do the same thing… shhh! 😛

  6. I don’t rank my own posts but I would definitely encourage others to do so, especially if they’re just starting out.

Imo, there just isn’t enough promotion going around DDO yet (as it’s very new to many) so a bit of shameless plugging is actually pretty beneficial for a new but dedicated blogger.

What do you think?
