Ejecta and the Deathwyrm
Ejecta and the Deathwyrm

While this has been going on for some time, I’ve only recently become aware of the fact that one guild on Sarlona, the High Lords of Malkier, are systematically walking through every raid in the game, one or two at a time, in a format and pace that is designed to teach the raid to those who have never completed it.

My Gamer Girl accompanied the High Lords on an Abbott teaching raid; I had other things to do but was able to hear her game audio, which consisted mainly of (very) patient and (unexpectedly) kindly explanations of the raid by the High Lords guild leader Voodu Spice (Nachommashouse on the forums).

For those who may not know the Abbott raid, it is highly complex, featuring three different puzzles which must all be completed correctly to advance the quest. The puzzles are each quite different from each other and also quite difficult. Not floor tile puzzles, but rather exploding asteroids that are targeting you and your group, or getting across a river of poison using a wand that makes (very) temporary islands and has a limited number of charges, or running across a changing floor where sections drop in and out of reality and the person running cannot see but must be guided by others.

Deathwyrm PortraitIf it sounds difficult, that’s because it is, maybe the most technically challenging raid in the game, no matter what level your character may be. And yet, there was Voodu, calmly describing every detail of every part to every character, patiently going over some sections again and again as needed, until everything was completed and the raid won.

My Gamer Girl was quite impressed.

I had the opportunity to run teaching raids with the High Lords as well, this past weekend, as their teaching raid schedule had advanced to Fire on Thunder Peak and Temple of the Deathwyrm, both of which are raids that I have never attempted.

And now I am impressed too.

Apparently the High Lords are teaching all the raids in something like level order. Meaning that the runs I participated in were the end of the circuit; time to start again at the beginning.

If you are on Sarlona and want to learn a raid, any raid*, keep an eye on the forums for the High Lords.

Coming soon to a raid near you!

* Except Tempest Spine and Titan. They don’t run Titan because Voodu doesn’t know it, and they don’t run Tempest Spine because, well, because it is Tempest Spine.

[Edit] Apparently it is Voodu and not Vudoo. My apologies to all involved, and thanks for the tip anon!

I haven’t been on one of their teaching raids yet, but HOX and VoD are coming up this weekend. Hopefully I can find time for those.

As you know there are allot of great guilds on Sarlona, but a quick shout out to the the High Lords of Malkier for doing these teaching raids.

    Keep on rockin’!

What do you think?
