Help Me Give Away This Really Cool Thing

As you know, DDOGamer is always standing by ready to answer your relationship or game-related questions. Especially the relationship ones, but for some strange reason, I just don’t get those as often. Gamers have relationships too, yes? And yet. Game question after game question with hardly a thought towards how we relate to those around us.

Not that I am bitter. In fact, quite the opposite, I love finding interesting goodies in my email box, and today’s example is maybe the most fun of all! Even if it is missing any sort of heartbreak or loneliness or inter-personal drama. This letter is all game. Yet even so, it is quite the awesome missive. Let’s take a look:

I got an extra Menace of the Underdark™ Standard Edition – Digital Download code from the DDO Market today and would like to donate it to DDO Gamer for a promo or give away of some sort. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll mail you the code.

All the best,
Livmo

Pretty awesome, isn’t it? A lovely prize, quite the boon for many players. Even those who are VIP and bought the expansion pack probably know someone in their family or guild that could use something like this. Even though this is described as the “standard” package, it is chock full of DDO goodness:

Included adventure packs:

  • The King’s Forest
  • The Underdark
  • The Demonweb
  • Phiarlan Carnival
  • Attack on Stormreach
  • The Path of Inspiration
  • The Dreaming Dark

But wait, there’s more! MOAR!

  • Epic Destinies
  • Druid Class
  • Eveningstar Challenge Pack
  • Greater Tome of Learning
  • 1,000 Turbine Points
  • Veteran Status (lvl 4)

That is a lot of awesome, all in one freely-available digital download code.

Thank you Livmo, what a generous gift!

Now let’s make sure it gets into worthy hands. No guarantees of course, but we can always try. Here’s how:

Explain why you want this expansion pack code. Right here in the comments of this article. Be as verbose or as terse as you like, every reason counts the same. Sure, I will  like some better than others, but still, even the briefest “because I want it” qualifies.

The contest will close Friday, December 18th. I will randomly select one entry as the winner of the expansion pack. No fancy video this time, those take a few days to make and wouldn’t be ready in time. Just text. Winner will be announced in this space on Saturday December 19th, just in time for Xmas.

To recap:

  • Explain why you want this expansion pack. Creativity is encouraged, even fiction, but any old reason will do
  • One entry per email address
  • Submit on or before December 18th to qualify
  • I will randomly select a winner

I will throw in something a little extra for my favorite entry. Not much, just something, but if you invest some time or effort into your entry it may pay off. Slightly, ever so slightly, but a payoff nonetheless.

Have fun, and good luck!

And thank you Livmo!

🙂 😀 🙂

  1. This is not an entry, just a compliment. You Rock and so do your blog fans! It’s people like you that make this game and its community fun and interesting. Thank you!

  2. Gamer child needs the expansion pack! We need another tank.

  3. Dear DDO “Santa Claus” Gamer,

I’m writing you this letter today, as I think I’ve been a really good boy this year. Of course, not everything went perfect. We all make mistakes from time to time and I’m not an exception to that rule. I’ve seen friends die. Even though I was the one supposed to heal them, I watched them turn into a soul stone. I failed at my job, sometimes I just wasn’t quick enough. Other times, simply because I preferred to take care of someone else, even sometimes my own life. But I made amends, I gave them their life back, but at the cost of some experience, unfortunately.

But looking at my whole year, I would say that I’ve done much more good than bad for the sake of Eberron AND Forgotten Realms. Remember when Thunder Peaks was occupied by 2 red dragons? And Thunderholme was under control of a Shadow dragon? I’m the one who risk his life to save those places. I wasn’t alone. Couldn’t have done it all by myself, but I was there. We were 12. We stood in front of them, and we did what no one else ever did before. We freed those places and they are once again safe for everyone

Before that, I also was able to free a temple where evil reigned. It was a huge place. Thousands of monsters took residence there. A huge mushroom like monster claimed ownership of that place, while we both know it wasn’t totally true. But Zuggtmoy was a terrifying foe. Many adventurers lost their lives. When I think about Cordovan’s characters, none has ever lived a fight with him. But we took our ressources and we faced the demon. And most importantly, we cleansed the temple from its evil roots.

More recently, I was tested by the archons. They saw that sparkle of Light in me, i’m pretty sure about it. They believed in me. And I prove worthy of them. They allowed me to fight along with them against a devil invasion. It truly was an honor to share the same side of the battlefield with them, and I feel that my work there helped save many archons life

Finally, I have learned that Arraetrikos is on the verge of coming back. I need help to face him, once again, like I did many years ago. He is a foul beast, and make no mistakes, he will come back, stronger than ever. I won’t be able to face him alone. That MotU expansion pack will be perfect for either my girlfriend or her son. It will be the perfect area to train one of them to assist me fight Harry. They can’t afford the pack actually, but if you help us, O Mighty Geoff, we’ll make sure to keep our promise to get rid of Harry, for once and for all!

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.

    Issander of Orien

    • I was going to come up with something snarky, for the sole purpose of being a snotty dwarf, but I see he’s from Orien. And I have to have some form of server loyalty, so…. Good luck with Gamer Santa!

  4. Stupendous Son needs to get into this game on his own account! Need this1

  5. Praise to the Gift Giver..

  6. I don’t have anything creative to say. I don’t have Menace of the Underdark and would like to play it.

  7. As a representative of the United Kobolds of Stormreach, I have come to say that we want many shiny, we want to bite Spider Lady’s ankle, we want to set traps in all the shrubbery, we want to unite the Droaam kobolds, and we want to make scary dreams go away.
    -Sincerely, Ixengix the Red

  8. I would like the Menace expansion to pass along to a gaming buddy who missed the Black Friday ddo market deals.

  9. I just love your energy! haha

As for why I want the expansion pack. Well, no better reason other than it fills a nice big hole in content I don’t own, and I would just love something else that I can run with friends and guildies 🙂

Thanks for doing this, and please continue to be one of the shining(disco)lights of the wonderful DDO community!

  10. Will let me set up a second account

  11. If I were to win this code, it wouldn’t be for myself. I’d give the code to a very good friend of mine who also plays DDO and doesn’t have either of the expansions. She recently went through surgery and uses the computer to communicate/run with me on various games and I know this expansion would be a great gift for her.

  12. This expansion code would be given to a friend who plays DDO and doesn’t have either expansion and is currently recovering from surgery. I would love for her to have some more fun running with me on DDO.

  13. new to the game i’m free to play and this would help me get more open

  14. been playing ddo for 3 or more years

  15. played paper D&D back in High School (30 yrs ago), playing DDO now. It never gets old, does it?

  16. Would love the TP and greater Tome of learning – I have the areas. Not sure if they can be parted out like that.

  17. Even says: THANK YOU, Geoff and Livmo! It’s awesome of you to do this! 🙂

Amie (Even’s F2P alt) says: Yes, THANK YOU to Geoff and Livmo! I have been a VERY good alt this year (and last year, and the year before…). I’ve been a bank and an instance-holder and a lever-puller, but since my big sis has SEVENTEEN sisters and brothers on that account, I don’t get a lot of the good stuff (not to mention that often when one of them pulls something I could use, it turns out to be BtA). I would love to have some packs and TP to buy more packs so Even doesn’t have to buy me guest passes all the time… plus, I want enough points to buy a parrot pet because I used my own TP to buy a trick for Even’s parrots and didn’t realize I wouldn’t be able to give it to her since I’m F2P. (And I’m Even’s alt, so OF COURSE I want more pets!)

Good luck to all, and Merry Christmas/Happy Chanukah/Joyous Kwanzaa/Festive Yule/Merry Festivus/Happy Holidays/[insert warm wishes for winter holiday of your choice]! 😀

  18. Menace?? I have to play to believe…. (in other words: I can’t pay for it).

  19. I’d be grateful if I had this, just started ddo and I find it amazing,so expanding my content and explorin new areas would be awesome. 🙂

  20. Because I am cheap and need to give someone a christmas present

  21. Nice offer and I think I need it, so thanks for the opportunity.

  22. I wanna see the fun builds I could make with this.

  23. I want it, but I rolled a 1 on telling you why I want it **sigh**

  24. Words cannot express how badly i want to win this, so…

  25. Once upon a time there was a world covered with magical beings,
They lived in harmony and peace enjoying the wonders of their dear world,
Then one day a dark arose which threatened to take away their peace,
As corruption continued to spread unchecked a call was sent forth,
And the response received, was stunning!

Dozens upon dozens returned forth the calls,
Until hundreds then thousands began to march forth,
The elves voyage from sacred lands,
The dwarfs marching from mountain homes,
The humans kissing their loved ones,
All set out on perilous voyage,
    Venturing forth towards freedom rang,
A cry, a challenge, a war to be won!

Behold from a small village came a young boy,
This boys sharp and inquisitive eyes,
Looked around with wonder at his world divine,
Taller and stronger as time passed he grew,
Training and preparing he spent his time,
Ready one day to conquer and change his world!

I began to set forth with my pack slung across my back,
The wind roaring brushed across my face,
My loved loves stood cheering as I journeyed on,
I felt powerful, undefeatable as I ventured forth,
Yet the danger lurking along around,
Proved too much to one such as I,
For I had forgotten my Father’s final words,
“Son, never forget the ‘Menace of the Underdark’.”

I’m sorry if there’s any errors because English is not my first language.
One must never forget where such an amazing game has come from! History is very important and especially one such as D&D. I played D&D a lot during my youthful years and it has been such an inspiration to me. My time spent has led to my absolute love of turn-based and strategy games. I give my thanks to my friend who led me to find this game. For I have enjoyed every minute spent inside this wonderful magical world.

I may not be the most qualified to receive this free giveaway but I would be honored if I were chosen. Thank you for the opportunity to play this game!

(i would love to have this theres no way i can aford it )

  27. Please, please, please Santa I want an Underdark Adventure pack. Oh and can I have a new crossbow to use to beat down Harry in the Shroud.

  28. If I am your lucky recipient, it is my intention to re gift it to a member of our guild who is not a VIP and as a result has been less active recently. I am hoping that this gift will renew in him the desire to once again join us in our quests and help banish the evil monsters throughout the realm by opening to him new vistas and quests.

  29. Well, if I win this I will give it to 1 of my guildies. To the 1 that begs me for it. Our guild is very complex, there is always drama, so this will give it moré drama and its always fun to bother my guildies. Specially my guild leader BIGS. Hope I win.

  30. I thought for sure Derek was going to get it, but then he rolled a one. Feeling good on my chances, have to roll at least a 9. Thanks for paying it forward with the kindness.

  31. I promise you this, if I win the prize I shall summon all my thousands of guild mates and we shall repopulate the servers of DDO. It will be a glorious day!

  32. Just recently reinstalled DDO after a bit of a hiatus. I need all the tools & content I can muster.

  33. Would love to introduce a friend to DDO, and free stuff is usually good at getting him to try something.

  34. Nice job Geoff! Could use on my second account for my son!

  35. It was a dark and stormy night. Somewhere a dog barked. Call me Ishmael. Luke, I am your father! Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you’ll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don’t feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. Once an angry man dragged his father along the ground through his own orchard. “Stop!” cried the groaning old man at last, “Stop! I did not drag my father beyond this tree.” It was a pleasure to burn. You better not never tell nobody but God. He—for there could be no doubt of his sex, though the fashion of the time did something to disguise it—was in the act of slicing at the head of a Moor which swung from the rafters.

All ears were listening. Not even a dog barked.

  36. Thanks for the chance to win – been playing DDO for years – it’s the best

  37. I don’t deserve this and it would likely be more appreciated by someone else. I still thank you for the chance.

  38. I want this expansion pack because dammit, I deserve it. I work hard. I work to feed my family and pay the bills. When I’m done doing that I play hard. I play to feed my family and pay the bills. Wait. What is this thread about again?

  39. Missed it during the Black Friday sales, would really love to get it,

  40. Because my husband has it and not me 🙁

  41. To join my friend’s raids

  42. I would like the pack so I can give it to my old guild leader as a present because he hasn’t gotten yet and I’d like it to be a surprise for him. I’ve known him since 2009 and he’s been a good friend and awesome leader of the guild for a few years but gifted the guild to me due to his job and the different hours he works. I’d like him to be able to run with the guild once again and into the Underdark so he can level up and I can kick his dwarf barbarian ass.

  43. Wow, thanks for a chance to win this!
The reason i need this expansion pack is well, it happened about five years ago on my fathers lands. Ive just returned home after finessing my long training to become a paladin and was looking forward to seeing my family again. I was traveling with a small retinue of men at arms numbering about twelve, we were taking the long way to my fathers keep for the bridge on the main road was out and under repairs. We were coming to the edge of the forest when i smelt smoke, at first i thought it was just cook fires from the near bye village but was proven wrong once we cleared the edge of the forest and saw that the village was ablaze. I urged my men to make haste as we road hard to the village. As we got closer we could see that the village was being raided by drow. They were to busy looting to see us come from the forest at the back of the village. I blew my war horn as we neared the first hut followed by the war cry’s of my men which startled the drow raiders for they were not expecting any one to come this far out from the keep. The first group of raiders on the edge of the village were cut down as we thundered in making our way to the center. At the center of the village the drow raiders tried to from up to meet our advance but were nor ready time or prepared for a charge of Calvary but did manage to down three of my men in a hail of bolts from their arm mounted crossbows. We slammed into the group trampling some under the hooves of our mounts while cutting down others with sword and spear. The fighting only lasted 10 minutes but felt like an eternity, four more of my men went down in the fight and I took a bolt to the shoulder before the drow routed and fled to the forest. After the fighting we set out to help the villagers put out the fires and to aid those who were wounded. While searching for those who needed aid I came across a trail of blood leading to one of the huts, I entered think it was one of the villagers wounded in the raid and was hiding from the drow. As i opened the door a bolt whizzed by my head missing me by an inch or two and slamming into the door with a loud thud. I cursed and and raised my shield which sent pain up my arm from the wound i took earlier as i quickly entered followed by two men at arms. Inside was a drow cleric, she was slumped against the back wall trying to load another bolt but was having difficulties from the broken spear point in one of her arms, a gash across her mid section and loosening a lot of blood. My men pushed past me and disarmed and held her at sword point waiting for my orders. She eyed me venomously and shouted something in her tongue which I couldn’t understand, I was just mesmerized by her beauty and as i looked at her there was a strange feeling in my gut like butterflies. But i just brushed those feelings off simply as hunger pains due to the fact i haven’t eaten for a day and was looking forward to my mothers cooking. I bent down and used lay on hands to heal her wounds. She looked stun and then eyed me suspiciously and said something else which i didst understand. I told my men we would take her captive and have my father decide what to do with her. As we made our way to to center of the village and prepaid to gather the rest of my men a mob of angry villagers came up to us demanding we turn the drow over to them so they could hang her. My men were uneasy but drew their swords ready to defend me but I told them to sheath their weapons, there was no need for that. I turned to the angry mob and proceeded to convince them to let me take the the captive to my father the duke for judgment, which in the end the finally agreed but with much grumbling. After few hours of travailing I was finally at the keep, once in the courtyard I dismounted and went strait to my father to tell him of the drow raid and about the captive. After talking with my father he had a hearing to determine what to do with her. After listening to the some of the villagers and their plea for justice he decided on execution. My stomach churned at his words but i couldn’t understand why she was drow an evil being that attacked a defenseless village and needed to pay for those crimes. So why did i feel so badly was it the fact that I didn’t want to see her die after having healed her wounds and in turn saving her life not long ago or was it something else……. I spoke up and asked my father to reconsider that there must be another way then just sentencing her to death. I argued that it was a waste to heal her wounds only to have her killed later, she could live and work to repent for her crimes. After much arguing my father agreed to keep her as a captive and have her repent for her crimes but only if I took her into my custody and would be held responsible for her which I agreed to. Then for the next few years I kept an eye on her keeping her out of trouble which by helm she tended to get into a lot and in that time I taught her how to speak the common tongue and all about the surface world, she in turn eventually as our relationship grew taught me a bit about her home and language which fascinated me and always had me begging her to tell me more. For as a lad I loved reading about other races and lands from my fathers private library and the few books on the drow were my favorite. As time went on we became close real close but I was afraid, of my feelings towards her. I was a paladin of helm and she was a drow elf and followed the evil goddess lolth. So I hid my feelings and never told her how I felt. Then one day she disappeared and left a note for me in my room. It said that she was going back to the under dark, back to her evil kin that she felt that she has repented enough for her crimes and finally that it was for the best and she was sorry. The following day I made up my mind, I bid my father fare well and set out alone after her, I needed to tell her how I felt I couldn’t just leave it at this. So I set off in search of a guide or a map of an entrench to the under dark and with a little luck and helms blessing I would find one.

  44. Some very impressive entries 🙂

I, like many here, wish to give more content to guildmates, and also somehow missed out on buying extra content in the Black Friday thingee.

Good luck, everyone, and Geoff and Livmo.

  45. My alt account needs this code. Also, I’m trying to get the Mrs. to possibly start playing. I am to give her the account, fully equipped with the packages I was able to grind, and this would be an awesome increase for the “present” and might coax her to play. I know you have a gamer-girl of your own, and I would like one too.

  46. Was finally able to get my family to play DDO with me. We have a blast, and this would make a great gift for one of my kids.

    Hope I Win

  47. Wow! the things I could do with this, really need this…

  48. Everyone in guild got menance, so i belive pack must be really cool. Would be nice to join them!

  49. I want this expansion because Kantouch needs a constant partner to grind xp and guild renown alongside to go with his new(almost finished) computer that won’t lag!

  50. About two months ago, I started looking around at “free” MMOs to scratch a very old itch. It’s been over a decade since I’ve had a proper PnP D&D experience. Those that joined me at the old table are no longer within any reasonable distance as our lives got in the way. However, as my adult life began to take hold, I had less and less time to engage in adventures anyway. Fast-forward to two months ago, when I started to realize that games like D&D are good for my mental health. Allow me to explain.

I have a history of drinking and some drug use, all of which has been dealt with in varying ways. I am, and remain a clean person, in that regard. Video games, in some sense, help with that healing process which is continual as one is never actually cured of addiction. It is more like one learns to cope with the cravings and one’s own body throwing tantrums about not getting this or that substance. One such coping mechanism, for me, anyway, is immersing myself in a story. D&D is a pretty clear fit for that role, especially these days, when so many modern video games have all flash and no substance.

That being said, I’m also poor. I chose DDO for a few reasons, the obvious being to fill a void that has been left by having nobody to enjoy PnP with. Another, however, is because I can play for free when I have no money (I’m playing on a computer cobbled together from old parts that were throw away by an office center), and when I do have a few extra dollars of expendable income, I can toss a few bucks to DDO and contribute to a game I clearly enjoy.

So, that is why I’d like this pack. I just started out, and it would be great to have something extra to look forward to as I make my way in this world. I’ve already found a friendly guild, which makes me want to play even more because I want to be there to perhaps help enrich their game experience as well.

  51. At first I was sad, since all of my ideas were already used by some of the people that came before me. Wonderful stories, tales of old and new, a gift wanted as a blessing in a time of curse or grief. But then again, it is good to see people making such histories, living their own tales. But I wish to be able to tell my own tales, to go finally through the Underdark and save this and other worlds, for my sake, for those who came before me and for those who I’ll teach in the future.

Farewell (and hoping to see you by my side in Eveningstar for a pint at the tavern)

  52. Pretty simple. I would love to win this for my brother so that he can play MotU with me. Also, Merry Christmas Geoff and all 🙂

  53. Dear Santa, This year could you please give me a fat bank account and a slim body. Please don’t mix those two up like last year.
P.S I would really really love that Menace of the Underdark for my friend. Us girls need new toys to beat the boys.

  54. Can’t afford that since we ran out of money for presents.

  55. We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. Just kidding, lol wrong game, same company. But it would be pretty cool to win. Good luck everyone and Merry Christmas 🙂

  56. Tfw you already have it all -_-

Well i could give it to my friend which is asocial asf…

  57. I could really use this expansion pack. I am a father of 4 and I do well to my children and try to make sure they are taken care of. I spend as much time with them as possible, and enjoy it immensely. When they are in bed at night I find my “me time” immersed in this game. I play a couple servers Thelanus and mostly Orien. I am active with guilds in each server and do well to stay up with my guild mates in which we try to quest together. But I fall short when it comes to doing things from the Menace pack. They do well to try and accommodate me by playing F2P quests with me and I know they would much rather play the higher quests in the menace chain. I would love to be able to play with them and share in the joy of all the pack offers. I just can not afford this pack on my own with our income currently where it is. I am disabled and have a small amount that I get from SSA, and my wife bless her heart works hard for the little she takes in. There is just not this amount available to be spent on the extras, especially being so close to Christmas. So this is my plea, I would really love to have this pack and I pray that you find it in your heart to award me with this pack.
    Thanks
    Shaitu

  58. I’d love to get this pack for my 12 year old son who has just restarted playing DDO with me. The only paid content he has is Tangleroot so this would be a great kick along for him.

  59. Just gave my son 60days of VIP and he’s hooked, and plowing through content like a monster. This would be a great boost, for when that runs out and he’s got to earn his ddo points for expansions.

    Love the blog. Thanks!

  60. Would love to have the chance to expand to Motu!

  61. I want that expansion because i’m poor and it’s hard for me to afford these stuff.

  62. Add me into the pool please for asking for friends. We have some guildies who need the pack. – Jiudark, Orien

  63. Hey guys,
I am a new player, helped by a very good real life friend. My life is kind of a mess right now and I can’t afford buying content for the game. My pal has helped me a bit and even reincarnated recently to help me out in the first few levels. We are level 7 right now and I would like to keep playing a lot more.

Like I said I can’t afford to put money in the game and playing with my childhood friend has helped me a lot through some bad times. This pack would help me get some nice content and I could purchase some more with the points.

    Thank you,
    Freewheel Burning in Thelanis

  64. I want this expansion so i could give it to guildie who don’t know english and can’t comment himself (he doesn’t know i’m posting :P)

  65. Thank you for all the awesome entries! The contest is now closed. You can view the winner here: http://www.gamergeoff.com/menace-of-the-underdark-giveaway-winner/

What do you think?
