Ah ... retirement
Scanning the surf for bikinis instead of beholders

I’ve been regularly appearing or co-hosting on DDOCast now for just short of a full year. I don’t like to make a big deal about it for hubris-based reasons*, but I started last August and have been on all but one or two shows since.

* My Gamer Girl teases me about my ego enough as it is. No way I am going to feed that topic if I can help it.

But I digress. This is not about my enormous unchained ego, this is about DDOCast. Specifically, the fact that I will no longer be a co-host after the GenCon livecast next week.

There is no one overriding reason why now is the time to leave: I still enjoy doing the show, and I’m looking forward to Patrick’s tour of duty as the new host.

No, it’s more of a stream of reasons. I have games to design and quests to complete and real life adventures to explore. I don’t put the kind of time into it that Anne and Sig do, I just show up and talk, but I do put in some time weekly, and more, it adds complexity to weekend scheduling. I’ve always known I wouldn’t be doing it forever.

Next week is the live podcast from GenCon. And it’s the last podcast as hosts for Anne and Sigried Trent. I am not going to get a better cutoff than that.

It has been a great time though! From my first appearance where I was supposed to be part of a four-person roundtable but was the only one that showed, to last week when we had about a half page of game news and made it last over an hour, every show has been a lot of fun. Every one.

Anne and Sig are a lot of why it has been so fun. I can’t say enough good things about these guys, I really can’t, and the only thing about retiring from DDOCast that makes me sad is that I will no longer have a couple of hours with the Trents every week.

And then, next week, I fulfill a life-list wish by hosting an event at GenCon. And it’s not just any event, no, it will be a live DDO podcast made in front of a live audience.

So exciting! What a highlight!

live cast from GenCon

No question about it, I will be going out on top.
