Gnome Assassin

It seems that it is still the Week of Gnome Builds here on DDOGamer as we examine a third detailed character. This time, a pure-class Rogue.

As it happens, this is not theorycrafting, but rather real-crafting (is there such a thing?) as I have a character that I have already TR’d into level 1 of this build. The character has one past life only (Rogue) and +3 tomes in all stats.

But even so, I think this would work on a first-live build too, and am including starting stats for a 28-point build. If you want to play this on a first life, be aware that you’ll need to imbibe a +1 tome of Dexterity before reaching level 9.

DDOGamer accidentally presents: A week of Gnome character builds

Gnome Assassin
Rogue 20
Chaotic Good Gnome

The purpose of this build is assassination, pure and simple, with as good of an Assassinate DC as I can get.

It will need to be hellacious at DPS too, seriously good at trash mob cleaning, and able to stand up long enough to help out with the bosses. From the back side, of course, direct monster attention is going to be seriously bad.

I see lots of Diplomacy in her future, and heavy use of twitch-based maneuvers to try and keep her out of harm’s way.

Stats
               28pt 34pt Tome Level Up
               ---- ---- ---- --------
Strength 8 8 +3 4: INT
Dexterity 16 15 +3 8: INT
Constitution 14 15 +3 12: INT
Intelligence 18 20 +3 16: INT
Wisdom 8 8 +3 20: INT
Charisma 8 8 +3 24: INT
                                          28: INT

Again, if you play this as a 28-point build, you will need to acquire a +1 DEX tome before taking level 9.

An unbelievable cornucopia of skills. Practically all of them! I’ve never had a 19 Swim before!

28-point builds will not be able to afford Swim or Perform – and won’t miss them at all.

Feats

 1 : Two Weapon Fighting
 3 : Insightful Reflexes
 6 : Least Dragonmark: Scribing
9 : Improved Two Weapon Fighting
10 Rogue : Improved Evasion
12 : Improved Critical: Bludgeoning
13 Rogue : Opportunist
15 : Greater Two Weapon Fighting
16 Rogue : Crippling Strike
18 : Precision
19 Rogue : Slippery Mind
21 Epic : Overwhelming Critical
24 Epic : Great Ability: Intelligence
26 Destiny: Perfect Two Weapon Fighting
27 Epic : Epic Reflexes
28 Destiny: Elusive Target
29 Destiny: Dreamscape
30 Epic : Blinding Speed
30 Legend : Scion of: Astral Plane

Usually I go Dodge/Mobility/Spring Attack for this kind of build, but there just aren’t enough feats. I considered splashing Monk or Fighter, but decided that the capstone Assassin core ability was totally worth having. Totally! And that requires a pure class build.

Enhancements (80 AP)

Assassin (41 AP)
    • Knife in the Darkness
    • Dagger in the Back
    • Assassin's Trick
    • Nimbleness
    • Lethality
    • Deadly Shadow
         1. Shiv III, Sneak Attack Training, Stealthy III
         2. Venomed Blades III, Bleed Them Out II, Sneak Attack Training
         3. Critical Mastery III, Sneak Attack Training, Intelligence
         4. Execute, Killer III, Sneak Attack Training, Intelligence
         5. Assassinate, Light Armor Mastery III

Gnome (19 AP)
    • Gnomish Perserverance
    • Intelligence
    • Gnomish Perserverance II
    • Intelligence II
    • Retain Scroll Essence
         1. Wand and Scroll Mastery III, Stealthy III, Gnomish Weapon Training
         2. Gnomish Weapon Training
         3. Gnomish Weapon Training
         4. Gnomish Weapon Training

         1. Traveler's Toughness II, Strategic Combat
         2. Know the Angles III
         3. Strategic Combat

Thief-Acrobat (8 AP)
    • Staff Control
         1. Sly Flourish II, Fast Movement
         2. Haste Boost III

Most of the fun here is from the Gnome and especially the Assassin line, but Harper adds INT-to-damage (a necessity) while Acrobat adds a (delicious!) Haste Bonus.

Destiny (24 AP)

Shadowdancer
1. Stealthy III, Intelligence
2. Lithe III, Intelligence
3. Shrouding Strike III, Grim Precision III, Intelligence
4. Improved Invisibility III
5. Executioner's Strike III

Twists of Fate (15 fate points)
1. Intelligence (Tier 1 Draconic)
2. Intelligence (Tier 1 Magister)
3. Intelligence (Tier 3 Magister)

This character is going to be in a static group that only plays once per week or so, meaning Epics are way, way into the futire, if ever. But if I do get there, definitely want to live in Shadowdancer for the Executioner’s Strike, while loading up everything else with max INT.

Love that INT! It is, after all, what separates this build from every other rogue I’ve had.

Gnomish INT. Yummy.

🙂 😀 🙂

  1. slarden gave some great feedback about INT gnome assassins in his thread on the return of INT assassins. https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/469829-U29-Return-of-the-Int-Assassin-An-End-Game-Int-Assassin-Build?p=5794635&viewfull=1#post5794635

  2. Seems normal to make an INT and/or Swim [23] skilled rogue … I must be playing wrong.

Now, there are no dumb questions, only dumb people: What does this build use perform for?

What do you think?
