Gary Gygax Fund

The Gary Gygax Memorial Fund is a charity that is trying to build a statue of Gygax in his home town of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

I don’t have a lot to say about this. Well, yes I do, but it’s complicated and twisty and won’t come out of my head so I can write it down. I never met Gygax but I loved what he represented and I think if anyone deserves hometown hero status, he does. That is all I can elocute on this topic without a lot of introspection that I don’t have time to do this morning.

Now with that said, Wizards of the Coast has been very supportive of the fund. They’ve re-released special edition rulebooks and been involved in many other fund-raising activities. Now they are donating special lots of items from their TSR-era archives. Or closets. Or wherever they keep old stuff from a company they bought out fifteen years ago before they were in turn bought by Hasbro.

Most of the items are kind of silly. Dungeons & Dragons Paint-By-Numbers? But many are not, and some are – at least to me – priceless.

All of these items will be auctioned during the Gen Con charity auction this year, with all proceeds going to the Gygax fund.

I am hoping to help a good cause and also enrich my personal sense of history with a couple of these items.

But I’m not telling you which ones!

The full list is available here.

One more reason to go to Gen Con! As if one more was even needed.

🙂 😀 🙂
