Well then, this is something new. Apparently Standing Stone Games has decided to give everyone who logs into an active VIP account a free gift. A level 20 permanent hireling named the “Alabaster Lioness Figurine of Wondrous Power”.

As near as I can tell, the Lioness is identical to the Figurine of Wondrous Power: Onyx Panther, another permanent hireling that was included in the Menace of the Underdark pre-order bonus. Except the Lioness is white while the Panther is black.

If you pre-ordered Menace of the Underdark, and are still a VIP, you can have both, in your party, at the same time. If you also pre-ordered the Shadows of the Underdark Shadowfell Conspiracy expansion then you also have two different Owlbear companions, and can now form a party that consists of you and four different animals.

Details of the Lioness gift are found here, but it really seems quite simple. Log into any character during the gift period (Feb 6 – Mar 5) and the Alabaster Figurine will appear in your inventory. Assuming you are (or become) a VIP during the period. Can’t be much simpler than that.

I can tell you from personal experience that I love my Onyx Panther, even though I have to put him away somewhere around level 24. He has a level of coolness that the Owlbears never approach.

Now all we need is a Tiger. Then we can have Lions, and Tiger, and (owl)Bears! Oh my!

🙂 😀 🙂

  1. “Shadows of the Underdark expansion?”

  2. So, check out this scenario:
    1) You are an arty, druid, or Pale Master and have the ability to summon a ‘monster’.
    2) You summon new L20 Linoness
    3) You summon L20 Onyx Panther (assuming you have one)
    4) You summon L17 Owlbear (again, assuming you have the owlbears)
    5) You summon L25 Owlbear
    6) You summon a hireling with the ability to summon a monster – your party is now ‘full’
    7) Hireling summons monster
    8) You summon your fighting ‘pet’ (arty dog, druid wolf, PM skellie)
    9) You summon ‘monster’
    10) You call forth a cosmetic pet

You now have (9) other ‘companions’ that will follow you through a quest. And (8) of them can fight, too!

(Granted, you need to be at least L23 to do all this, so some of your lower level summons may not last too long, but hey! Eight ‘fighting’ companions and one cosmetic following you around…[♪♪ Following the leader, the leader, the leader / Following the leader, wherever he may go. ♪♪])

Also – keep in mind that if you currently are NOT a VIP, if you become one AND log in as a VIP before March 15th (March 13th for a LotRO mount – not sure why the discrepancy, but there it is), you get the lioness. And after that, you can cancell (or let lapse) your VIP status and you still get to keep the lioness and all new toons get one too (even if you are no longer VIP).

What has two thumbs, is not currently a VIP, but will be before March 13th?

*Points to self with both thumbs* This guy!

  3. Geoff,

Where can I buy the “Shadows of the Underdark” expansion? Is this a new expanded area of the Underdark with new quest(s) chain and a raid that I do not know about?!

  4. You guys are all very funny. Very.
    I fixed it.
