Mawry runs off into an Orange and Blue sunset
Christmas is over, the New Year is no longer new, and the Broncos are out of the playoffs; all that faces us is the dull grey suckiness of winter. Cold, dreary, sucky; holding of no redeeming values. I especially feel for those of you who live in the northern extremes (or southern, sometimes I forget that DDOGamer is global) and for whom this empty absence of all but gloom will continue for several more months. Even Pershephone prefers Hades at this time of year.
But there is hope, for those of us of the DDO persuasion, hope and even good tidings, because for us, the summer of Eveningstar is year-round. It is always dry and bright in the Menechtarun desert, always brisk and clear in the Stormhorns, always warm and cheery in the Stormreach Marketplace.
Who cares if your defensive line full of highly-paid all stars does nothing in the biggest game of the season? You don’t need a defensive line. Any good paladin will do. Or fighter. Or other creatively-built character with a decent Intimidate and a smidgeon of defenses and/or self-healing.
And if your All-World quarterback suddenly looks very, very normal, well, so what? Your casters still have their rocket arms, right? Reading your opponents, projecting damage everywhere with both accuracy and intelligence to exactly where it is needed.
Receivers don’t drop the ball in the Sleeping Spell Inn (though beholders may drop off and drop out given enough of the Good Stuff). Linemen always make their blocks in the Jungles of Khyber (that is, if anyone is still doing the shieldblock and firewall technique on the Marut).
So all is good, no reason for defeat or despair, no matter what your favorite football team did this year, or didn’t do.
Or at least, that is what I am telling myself. Over and over. Until the pain goes away. And the numbing winter sets in.
