Standing Stone Games is hiring a new content designer for DDO.

This seems simple and everyday, except it means Standing Stone Games is expecting to design more content. For DDO.

I wonder if they’ve been getting by for awhile with no content designer? Just programmers, taking on double-duty and designing the stuff as well as coding it? Probably not. But it doesn’t matter because content design help is on the way.

I can’t think of any negatives about this at all. More new content. New blood. New hiring. It is all awesome, top to bottom, no downside.

Check out the job description on LinkedIn: I am surprised that it demands no specific technical skills. In fact, I have everything they want, except proven experience in game design. Unless a prototype card game and a couple of pyramid games count. I suspect they do not, but I am not eligible in any case, the job is in Boston and I am moving to Denver to be with my family.

My favorite part in the job description is this part, listed under “responsibilities”:

Β· Play the game often and learn the systems inside and out

I think that pretty much puts to bed the whole ugly charge about the devs not really playing or understanding the game. Clearly they do, and in fact, they are required to do so.

But I digress. Our favorite game company is hiring more people to continue work on our favorite game.

There is no way to interpret that other than …. yay! For us, for SSG, for DDO.

  1. I don’t think it’s accurate to say technical skills aren’t required. The job listing does say tech skills are needed. In particular, scripting and programming language background and knowledge.

What do you think?
