DDO The Card Game: Spells


This post is part of a continuing series where I present my ill-formed thoughts about a DDO-inspired card game to you for review and suggestion.


A few spells are never cast, rather instead applying a bonus that is passively on all the time once the spell is deployed into the character stack. But this is the exception, most spells must be “cast” (discarded) to cause an effect.

Wizards and Clerics have an easier time acquiring spells and should have more from which to choose. Sorcerers and Favored Souls will tend to have less spells but be able to use them more often.

Spell Effects

Arcane Spells GAME TEXT
Magic Missile Discard to do your current HP of Force damage to one target
Shield Discard to ignore all damage from any Magic Missile directed at you
Summon Monster Discard to draw the top Heroic Monster and place it under your control
Blur
Elemental Resist Discard to allow yourself or one ally to ignore all elemental damage (fire, cold, acid or lightning) from any one spell, trap or attack
Invisibility Discard to shed any monster Focus
Fireball Discard to do your current HP of Fire damage to all opponents
Haste Discard to allow yourself or one ally to immediately make an extra Ranged or Melee attack
Hold Person Discard to force-Tap a humanoid opponent that has current HP less than or equal to your current HP
Summon Monster II Discard to draw the top Epic Monster and place it under your control
Shout Discard to do your current HP of Sonic damage to one opponent. If target has current HP less than or equal to your current HP, apply a Stun status card
Dimension Door Discard to shed any monster Focus and move self all the way to the left of the battle order
Displacement
Stoneskin Discard to allow yourself or one ally to ignore any melee or ranged attack
Elemental Protection Discard to allow yourself and all allies to ignore all elemental damage (fire, cold, acid or lightning) from any one spell, trap or attack
Cone of Cold Discard to do your current HP of Cold damage to all opponents
Hold Monster Discard to force-Tap one opponent that has current HP less than or equal to your current HP
Teleport Discard to shed any monster Focus and move self to anywhere desired in the battle order
Chain Lightning Discard to do your current HP of Lightning damage to all opponents
Acid Fog Discard to do your current HP of Acid damage to all opponents

Summon Monster III Discard to draw the top Legendary Monster and place it under your control
Mass Invisibility Discard to cause all allies to shed all Monster Focus

I am surprised at how rarely I need to go back and change something I’d written previously. The whole thing is coming together nicely, almost as if it were planned rather than grown over time.

Maybe slightly planned.
