DDO The Card Game - Clerics

This post is part of a continuing series where I present my ill-formed thoughts about a DDO-inspired card game to you for review and suggestion.

In original D&D, Clerics were almost fightery in their martial prowess. Yes they had spells, and those spells were important! But the martial aspect of the class seemed even more so. Clerics were in the front line, warriors who could cast spells.

Over the years and versions, the spell casting has gotten the most attention while the martial aspects languish. Today, a cleric is really a spell caster that can fight a little. Clerics that want to fight get a semi-pejorative label: “battle cleric”, ignoring the fact that as they were original envisioned they were all battle clerics.

I’m not doing anything to dispel that here. DDOtCG clerics are spell casters, who can be built up to fight a little, but really are spell casters.

Cleric Level When deployed, search Loot for any one Heal or Cure spell and deploy it to this character, then shuffle and cut Loot
Emissary of Light Your Cure (not Heal) spells may be cast on Undead opponents to do their listed HP in Positive Energy damage instead of healing
Searing Light Tap to do one point of Light damage to one opponent or two points to one Undead opponent
Transcend Light Discard to search Loot discards and remove all Cure and Heal spells. Put them back in your hand.
Emissary of Darkness Your Cure (not Heal) spells may be cast on non-Undead and non-Construct opponents to do their listed HP in Negative Energy damage instead of healing
Necrotic Bolt Tap to do one point of Negative Energy damage to one non-Undead, non-Construct opponent
Harm Discard to remove all but one HP from a non-Undead, non-Construct opponent

Note – there is a very powerful card in this, probably the most powerful card in the game. It is hard to play, and there is no way to recover it from the loot pile so there is no way to replay it. But still, quite powerful. I may have to prevent it from working on bosses?

But then that is what playtesting is for.

🙂 😀 🙂

  1. The amount of work and thought you’ve put into this card game is nothing short of amazing. I really hope I get to play it when it’s complete!

What do you think?
