Another day, another odd idea for an image, DDOGamer-style. Not Deep Dream, not this time. Not even Legos. In this case, I wondered what I could do with the photo mosaic tool available at picturemosaics.com. You’ve seen these images before: hundreds or thousands of tiny images, tiled together to show a larger meta-picture.
The technology is pretty amazing! The website allows you to build what they call a “proof” edition for free, and I’ve included it above. Go ahead, click on it. Magnify your view. You can see that it is composed of DDOGamer images, hundreds of them, some used repetitively. You can’t make out much detail about the tile images, no, that is only available when you buy the finished product. And while the DDO logo is well done and would make a nice poster, it is not so cool that it is worth $90, or even the $40 that it would cost to get the digital version of the final, detailed image.
I will settle for the free proof version.
I am calling this “free” but it was not effort-free. I uploaded all of the DDOGamer images I’ve made to make this. Every MMOtivational poster, every album cover, every Favorite Monster, pretty much every image of every kind. All 1176 of them. Quite a bit of time and clicking was involved. But no money, so there’s that.
Apparently I’ve made a lot of images.
Still, pretty cool, huh? Even with the giant Picture Mosaic logo in the corner and at the fuzzy level of detail available.
Here’s another version in a different aspect ratio. The automated tool does not support enough different sizes for me to get a completely uncropped image, but this is closer. On the other hand, it contains less tile images somehow. <shrug>
Anyway. Now it’s done, hope you find it as entertaining as I did.
