Both of you who occasionally read this drivel may recall a post from last week titled “First Life Gnome Eldritch Knight“. This was intended to be a character build for my Gamer Girl that she could play in a static group of all gnomes. It is a tanking build, solidly focused on tanking. In spite of the fact that it is mostly a wizard. All things considered, I thought it turned out rather well.

But, being my Gamer Girl, she can’t just play it, she has to improve it. And she has! Here is the new and improved Gnome Eldritch Knight, replete with Gamer Girl-designed skills and leveling plan:

Tweaked Gnome Eldritch Knight
16/3/1 Wizard/Paladin/Artificer
Lawful Good Gnome

Level Order

1. Paladin 6. Wizard 11. Wizard 16. Wizard
2. Wizard 7. Paladin 12. Wizard 17. Wizard
3. Wizard 8. Wizard 13. Wizard 18. Wizard
4. Paladin 9. Artificer 14. Wizard 19. Wizard
5. Wizard 10. Wizard 15. Wizard 20. Wizard

Stats
               32pt Tome Level Up
               ---- ---- --------
Strength 8 4: INT
Dexterity 8 8: INT
Constitution 16 12: INT
Intelligence 20 +3 16: INT
Wisdom 8 20: INT
Charisma 12 24: INT
                                 28: INT

Note the addition of four Charisma: while the original was built for First Life players, my Gamer Girl is a Veteran. Also, she has a +3 INT tome which helps with skills.

Speaking of skills:

Jiggling the leveling order about caused almost 20 new skill points to appear. Quite a nice piece of jiggling. Also, my Gamer Girl thought Perform would help since the build will be doing Sonic spell and feat damage.

Nice choices!

The level jiggling caused some changes in the feat acquisition order :

Feats

 1 : Insightful Reflexes
1 Deity : Follower of: Sovereign Host
 2 Wizard : Extend Spell
 3 : Shield Mastery
 6 : Mental Toughness
 8 Wizard : Empower Spell
 9 : Skill Focus: Intimidate
12 : Skill Focus: Use Magic Device
14 Wizard : Maximize Spell
15 : Improved Critical: Piercing
18 : Improved Shield Mastery
19 Wizard : Quicken Spell
21 Epic : Overwhelming Critical
24 Epic : Intensify Spell
26 Destiny: Holy Strike
27 Epic : Burst of Glacial Wrath
28 Destiny: Forced Escape
29 Destiny: Embodiment of Law
30 Epic : Epic Damage Reduction
30 Legend : Scion of: Arborea

We’ve also taken the suggestions that astute readers FuzzyDuck81 and unbongwah made in the earlier post and dropped Tower Shield Proficiency. This allows the build to have Extend and Quicken, rather than only one or the other, and is a nice improvement! Thanks guys!

An even better version of what I think was a pretty decent build to start.

Nice!

🙂 😀 🙂

  1. might have to steal this for my next wizard life (when I say *might* I mean *will*!)

    😀

  2. Why not take the arty level first and cover traps?

What do you think?
