There I was, innocently perusing the DDO forum Dev Tracker, just going about my business like normal.

Suddenly, a wild Severlin quote appears:

We are planning out the future of DDO in years, and discussing the possibility of an expansion near the end of 2017. Cool things are coming.

Sev~

What? A new expansion? Next year?

That can’t be right, can it?

I probably just read it wrong. Let’s try again.

Oh. My. God! That is exactly what he is saying. Note – “discussing the possibility”, rather than “planning for”, but still, a new expansion! Next year!

How improbable!

How unexpected!

How wonderful!

One can only trust that he means it, not that I have any reason to believe that Severlin would exaggerate about something like that, but still, a new expansion? Holy Shamoley!

A new expansion!

I could speculate on what it might be: the long-lost Anauroch desert? The entire S series of classic D&D modules? Something else entirely?

Oh, I hope it is the S series. White Plume Mountain, at last, along with Tomb of Horrors, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, and one I never played: “The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth”.

But this is just hope. We don’t even have a definite statement that there will be another expansion. Only “discussing the possibility”.

But still, when you are playing a ten-year old game, someone talking about an expansion is someone who is trading in hope.

A man* has gotta have hope, right?

🙂 😀 🙂

* Referencing “man” in the generic sense, rather than “man” in the gender sense. “A human has gotta have hope” just doesn’t have the same ring to it, even if it is a more truthful statement of what I am trying to communicate.

  1. Well this hyumaan will have hope 🙂

So, hey guys [in the generic sense] more content, more excuses for us to give them our moneys!

I’m still holding out for Dragonlance content, gotta love Fizban the Fabulous! (I’m sure he’s more use than Gandminster)

  2. City of Waterdeep

  3. Stumpy holding hope!

  4. Hoard of the Dragon Queen? Spelljammer? Ravenloft? Maybe some tie-in to the upcoming movie? Lots of possibilities, but please get Vin Diesel to narrate something…

  5. Barrier Peaks armor and weapons could be worth a long grind. (referencing your http://www.gamergeoff.com/opening-the-floodgates/ article)
I don’t like grinding things too much, and unless it was a VERY fun module and had a lot of random elements or an outdoor area I probably wouldn’t–but Barrier Peaks would get me as close as I could get to excited about the idea.

What do you think?
